Centre 70 Workshops – All welcome!!

Now an established part of the festival fringe, Centre 70 (C70, right next to the Kinecroft) will be packed with all manner of workshops. You’re welcome to come and try your hand at sea shanties, guitar, story telling and lots more. There’ll be something here for everyone, and all ages are welcome. Please note that children must be accompanied by a supervising adult for the duration of these workshops.

There is no advance booking — just turn up on the day. We are asking for a minimum donation of £5 for each workshop to cover costs.

Sea Shanties

Short Drag Roger

10am to 11.30am

Short Drag Roger sing traditional sea shanties — some dating back as far as the 16th century. Come and learn what shanty men and crews did aboard the sailing ships of a bygone age. Short Drag Roger maintain the true character of work songs — but the rich chorus harmonies are all their own! This is a workshop, so your participation is essential.

Children’s Cotswold Morris

5- to 10-year-olds

10 am to 11 am

Children’s Morris dancing workshop with Jack Worth and Jackie Oates. 5 – 10 year olds. Learn a Cotswold Morris dance! Maximum 20 children.

A Cappella Singing

The Skeptics

11.45 to 1pm

A cappella harmonies, and unique arrangements aren’t all they bring to folk/fusion… the daft shirts should seal the deal. The Skeptics formed in 2009 to bring something different to the folk canon whilst honouring its traditions and heritage. All ages welcome.

Children’s Singing Workshop

5- to 10-year-olds

1 pm to 2pm

Children’s singing workshop with Jackie Oates, 5 -10 year olds. Learn to sing some beautiful folk songs in harmony with Jackie Oates. No previous experience required! Parents are welcome to stay and join in.

Ukulele

Karina Jordon

1.15pm to 2.45pm

Aimed at people (teens and adults) who can already play a few chords and would like to learn how to play/develop playing barre chords. During the workshop a modern song by Harry Styles will be taught, including strumming and picking.

Please bring your own ukulele.

Karina is a primary school music teacher with over 20 years experience. In her spare time she enjoys running The Dukes (Didcot Ukuleles).

Guitar Tasters

Oxfordshire Music School – 20 minute sessions

20-minute guitar taster sessions, for children, teenagers and adults.

Tom is a local guitar tutor providing a fun inclusive acoustic guitar workshop for all levels and ages of budding guitarists. If you have a guitar, bring it along! Beginners welcome, the workshop will have something for every player!

Story Telling for Grown Ups

Storytelling for Grown-Ups. Keith (‘The funniest thing to happen to Storytelling since the chicken crossed the road’) presents this interactive workshop for wannabe tellers and/or just lovers if Story. (This is a ‘PG’ event. Some of the tales are prrrrretty scary).
