Alphabet Backwards’ ethos is simple: to champion the noble art of pop music, dancing all the way. It’s infectious, and puts a smile on your face. It’s a summery, joyous, happy-go-lucky affair, punctuated with an irresistible synth buzz and hooks aplenty. After all, pop is not a dirty word.
The band grew around the songwriting of James Hitchman. One man and his guitar can only go so far on his own, so he recruited Josh and Paul who had played in previous bands with him. Bob Tom was pretty easy to find too, he was working as a church organist just down the road from Josh, whose sister was finally enlisted after James heard her singing in the shower. They’ve put the groundwork in developing an enthusiastic and lively fan base in Oxford, and the word is spreading fast.
A mini album and three EPs in a year followed and radio play on BBC Radio 6, Radio 2 and even Radio 5 Live before singing with Highline Records and releasing the debut album Little Victories. Produced by Brian O’Shaughnessy at his studio in Walthamstow. He is a man responsible for Screamadelica by Primal Scream and, more importantly, Star Trekkin’ by The Firm.
Touring and festivals in Spain before a slight break for medical reasons including a diagnosis of epilepsy by the lead singer James which in turn offered new inspiration and material for the new self written, recorded and produced second album Friends, Lovers and Empty Beds.
